Special Awards

Compared to the 1999 Philippine Web Awards which had five additional special website awards, the 2000 Philippine Web awards only has three, two which were also entirely new categories — ‘Ericsson Mobile Internet Award’ which was given to popular Philippine portal ClickTheCity.com, ‘UnionBank’s Best Portal of the Year’ which was awarded to Adobo.com. The ‘Yehey! Most Popular Site of the Year’ went to (as expected), ‘Chismis.ph‘. A non-website award ‘Internet Man of the Year‘ was given to Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr.

The rise of the new

The 3rd Philippine Web Awards was even participated by more companies and individuals. New to this year’s awards are popular website portals in the Philippines during that time, such as ClickTheCity.com, FemaleNetwork.com, Chismis.ph, and Adobo.com. Big award newcomers such as GMA Network, Ayala Center / Glorietta,  and Philippine Congress websites participated (and won) for the first time.  Organizations such as the UAAP and PhilWAP also participated for the first time (and won). Clickthecity.com bagged 3 awards this night.

The rise of the new websites that participated in this year’s awards reflected the rise of the Internet scene in the Philippines.

Old but still here – repeat winners from previous years

PhilMusic.com

Repeat winners from the previous year’s web awards like ABS-CBN (which won four awards that night – their ABS-CBN News website, their ABS-CBN Foundation, their ABS-CBN Main site with 2 awards), Lakbay.net, Candymag, PLDT.com, UP Mountaineers, Jim Ayson’s PhilMusic.com,  Informatics, Inday’s (Cheryl Fuerte’s) LuvKoSiInday.com were also present in the 2000 Philippine Web Awards and they all have won again.

PhilMusic.com by Jim Ayson won again the ‘Best Website – Music’ category, 3rd year in a row. It has held the throne of the Best Music Website category and no one has defeated it so far. PLDT.com, still up despite the controversy surrounding it, won again with a People’s Choice award under the ‘Weird’ category. Web designer Ninoy Leyran’s UP Mountaineers has won again, in the Non-Profit category for Best Website.

Popular Sites that got the People’s Choice Awards

Rising from its defeat in 1999 awards, ABS-CBN grabbed People’s Choice Awards for three of their websites (PinoyCentral, ABS-CBN, and ABS-CBN Foundation) for the Services, Personalities/Celebrities, and Cause-Oriented categories.

Consistently popular sites on their respective categories– Jim Ayson’s PhilMusic.com,  Inday’s (Cheryl Fuerte) LuvKoSiInday (Indayworks.com), Lakbay.net, Hiraya Gallery and FemaleNetwork.com won a People’s Choice award in the Music, Personal Websites, Travel, Arts, and Home and Living categories.

Perennial popular site PLDT.com won again under the Weird category.
