The 5th Philippine Web Awards (2002)

The 5th Philippine Web Awards was held on November 29, 2002 at the Dusit Hotel Nikko in Makati, Philippines. It’s the fifth year that IT enthusiasts, web designers and developers again gather and anticipate who will win the country’s most sought for annual web awards.

Interestingly, the organizers added a theme to this year’s award which revolves around Anime, Robots, Fantasy & Cosplay

The awards is created and organized by THE WEB Philippines (a bi-monthly publication of WS Computer Publishing Corporation, Philippine licensee of the International Data Group IDG).

The 2002 Philippine Web awards has two special awards — ‘Villman Most Innovative Site’ which was given to To The Games, and the ‘Yehey! Most Popular Site of the Year’ went to Ang Dating Daan which is also the winner in the People’s Choice in the Organizations category

5th year in a row for PhilMusic.com

The 5th Philippine Web Awards had 10 were repeat winners from the past Web awards years. The biggest winner of them, is yes, again PhilMusic.com by Jim Ayson. It won again the ‘Best Website – Music’ category, and also the People’s Choice Music category — now for the 5th year in a row. It now has a total of 10 awards for 5 years. No one still was able to defeat it in both the Best Music Website category and People’s Choice Music category for 5 years now.

This shows that there are more and more websites being created and honed to excellence that chances of repeat winners are getting less. New notable winners this year include To The Games which also won the Villman Most Innovative Site award, Kasal.com which bagged the Best Website and People’s Choice award under ‘Home and Living’, Ang Dating Daan which received two awards, Rustans Online for Best Website under Commerce, and RegineVelasquez.net as the Best Website under Celebrities & Personalities.

Performers and presentors

Among the ones announced to present the awards are Akiko Thompson, Amanda Griffin, and Assunta da Rossi along with some industry bigwigs, such as Ver Peņa. Performers lined up are upcoming sultry R&B; artist Nina, the legendary Wally Gonzales of Juan de la Cruz band fame, and alt-pop band Session Road.
